Chemical Peels are versatile and commonly used to improve sun-damaged skin on the face, chest, or hands, as well as to address acne and specific blemishes. Choosing the right peel involves assessing your skin type and concerns before selecting from various grades and brands.
Peel Grades
Superficial Peels brighten and refine skin texture, shedding the outer layer and stimulating healthy skin growth. Different from beauty therapist peels.
Medium Depth Peels work on deeper layers, effectively reducing wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmentation issues, evening skin tone, and diminishing age spots.
Easy Phytic Solution is a superficial peel, and is made up of 70% glycolic acid with mendolic acid and phytic acid. It can be used on all skin types including Black and Asian skin. It is often used as part of a course of 6 peels at weekly intervals. It does not cause any visible peeling and could be done in your lunch hour!
Easy Phytic Peels can only be applied by medical professionals.
Easy TCA Solution is classed as a medium depth skin peel and is made up of 15% trichloracetic acid. It is excellent at reversing signs of sun damage, treating mild acne, reducing lines and removing pigmentation and other visible signs of ageing. Treatment with TCA consists of 4 separate peels performed at weekly intervals. It will most likely lead to some skin shedding, much like sunburn.
pH Formula is a controlled skin resurfacing treatment that is uniquely designed for specific skin concerns. It uses a layer dependent technique that allows varying rates of penetration of the product. There are peels specifically designed for hyperpigmentation, ageing, acne and chronic redness.
After deciding on the best Peel for you based on skin colour and problem areas, it is usual for the deeper peels that you use a complimentary cream for 2 – 3 weeks prior to the treatment. Patients are also advised not to undergo tanning or UV treatments in the 2 weeks before treatment. On the day of the treatment, the skin is cleansed and the Peel is applied with cotton gauze/wool or buds. Different numbers of layers will be applied depending on the product used.
There is normally a warm or burning sensation which soon settles. Sometimes a post Peel cream is applied. The treatment normally takes 15 to 30 minutes to perform. On leaving, your skin may appear flushed but will otherwise look normal.
With Easy Phytic and pH Formula peels there is no visible peeling of the skin, but the best results will be seen at about 1 week post peel.
With the TCA there is skin tightening at about day 2 with peeling at about day 2 – 3. This is normally fairly mild with the TCA Peel appearing much like mild skin burn. For this reason, you may prefer to time the skin peel so that this occurs over the weekend.
With both, the skin starts to look its’ best from about 1 week post peel.
The most commonly treated area is the face, but good results can be achieved from treating the neck, hands and even back.
Do not wash or apply anything onto the newly peeled skin for 24 hours. Then use high factor sun protection and any prescribed treatment creams. If the skin peels try to not physically remove the skin as this can increase risk of infection
