We provide anti-wrinkle injections in Birmingham, treating wrinkles and fine lines on the face, using Botulinum toxin A (wrinkle relaxing injections). With daily usage of our facial muscles, the skin can become creased in areas of maximum use. Also with time, collagen and elastin production is slowed, speeding up the ageing process, making lines permanent and ingrained in the skin.
At our clinic in Edgbaston, Birmingham, Botox is injected into these areas and reduces the movement of the muscles, stopping the skin from creasing and allowing the lines to soften or even fade away.
The lines that respond particularly well to Botox anti-wrinkle injections are:
During treatments small amounts of toxin are injected into targeted muscles using a fine needle. This process relaxes the muscles, decreasing movement. By preventing the muscle from contracting and forming crease lines, it naturally softens dynamic wrinkles, resulting in a fresh, rejuvenated, and naturally appearing outcome.
Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a prescription-only drug and has to be issued by medical professionals only: this is why it cannot be advertised in the same way as other cosmetic products. Its cosmetic benefits (reducing wrinkles) were first noticed as a side effect when it was being used for other medical procedures. One of its current uses, for example, is for children with cerebral palsy when it is used to relax muscles in spasm. The comforting thing about this is that it has been around for decades and has passed stringent medical tests. Remember also that because the results are temporary, so are potential problems.
After deciding which areas are to be treated, the area is cleansed with an antiseptic wipe. Sometimes, the injections sites are marked with a pencil while you frown or squint, which demonstrates the muscles in motion and where the lines are. These spots are then injected with a tiny needle. There will be some pain but this is usually described as very mild.
When the toxin is injected into muscles it causes them to relax. The muscles targeted are the ones that contract, pulling the skin into folds and wrinkles; relaxing these muscles essentially relaxes or removes the wrinkles. It typically takes 7-10 days for the full effect to be seen, and we will review you at our clinic in Edgbaston, Birmingham after 2 weeks, allowing us to assess the results.
Try not to touch the area for about 4 hours after the procedure. For the first hour, try to work the muscles that have been injected as much as possible. Depending on what you have had injected, this may involve smiling, frowning or raising your brows. You may return to normal activities straight after treatment – many people have the procedure in their lunch break – but do not lie down for 4 hours
